Here are my top 20 picks of my photos for 2012. These are not the best cars that I took photos of, and they aren’t the best of ALL of the photos that I took, but they are the ones that I feel are the best ACROSS the year. Interestingly, they do show some changes in my style of shooting, and post-processing, as well as showing me that during one part of the year, I kind of settled into a pattern for a couple of months where I shot the same angle, same type of shot, over and over.
I took about 25,000 shots last year that could have been in this group, of course, during editing, these were reduced to about 4,000-5,000 shots.
in order to get this list, I scanned through thumbnails of photos that I actually published out that are publically available (no private or family photos are included). I choose all of the thumbnails that caught my eye, and that made my initial list. That had it down to about 40. I then entered them all on this page, and started culling out any that didn’t still feel like they represented the best of the event.
I went this route so that I wouldn’t just cull out all of my “early in the year” photos, as most of the photos that I considered “better” were in the later part of the year. So I choose ones that just seemed like they should stay around to represent that period of time that they were taken in. There were still none before March that I felt that I could keep on this list though, except one small set, but from a private family event.
At the beginning of 2013, I sold almost all of the gear that I used in 2012, and bought new gear. I am working to improve my shooting in 2013, and hopefully, the results will be much better than in 2012.
